Romania
Romania lies on the Black Sea coast of southeastern Europe. Best known perhaps for being home to Count Dracula, the country in fact has a lot more to offer than fictive fame. Romania has an imposing landscape of forests, medieval churches, fortified Saxon churches, rural villages - all divided by the commanding Carpathian Mountains and Transylvanian Alps.
Bucharest, Romania’s capital lies between the Carpathian Mountains and the Black Sea. Once known as "Little Paris", it had entire neighbourhoods designed by French architects. Some of these gems are now slightly obscured by more drab post-Stalinist buildings, but nonetheless a Byzantine-style chapel is not too hard to come by. With its rich heritage, picturesque villages such as Maramures, the culture and traditions of the old Romania have been carefully preserved.
